Qualifications/Training in Photography?

My interest in photography started as a child; my dad was an avid hobbyist. My love of photography started with sunsets, still life images and restoring old images for my grandmother. Since college I learned to use the darkroom and really understand the technical. While going to school for law, which was short lived, I got a part time job at a local studio, as a retoucher.

Over the years I have worked for many portrait studios; from the box studio and learning the basics, to the dance/school photographer learning posing, a professional photographic lab learning the technical behind a good portrait.

Once the digital revolution came, I began freelancing my services as a retoucher and taking film studios digital and printing their own work.

In recent years, I have worked and mentored with Angela Carson, run a successful studio, and and have branched out to start my own studio, where I am constantly learning and reinventing my business.

Can you describe your photography, in 2 words?

Modernly Classic

As you know, many of the photographers on ProPs are new to the ballgame, what advice would you give them to help put them on the road to success?

You are never done learning, constantly reinvent yourself. There are always new ideas and new techniques out there. No matter how long you have been in the business; You are never done learning! Do not ever be afraid to go to a workshop or conference, there will always be something to get out of it. Remember, education is the key to success. Invest in your education and talent, it is the one thing that cannot be lost.

What music are you listening to these days?

I tend to listen to audio books over music. I recently finished the Twilight Series, and starting the Dune Series. If I do listen to music is usually lighter music such as Coldplay, Gavin Degraw, John Mayer, Maroon 5,etc.

Do you have spare time for yourself? If so, what do you like to do outside of Photography?

Spare time? What is that? When I do find the time, I am an avid movie-goer, and I also like to see plays, musicals, and operas with friends.
